Corporate Advisor
Salary up to $80,625.00 annually
This position can be located in Vancouver or Victoria

Within Workplace Health and Safety Branch (WHS), Disability Benefits Administration has corporate responsibility for the Long-Term Disability (LTD), Workers’ Compensation (WCB) and Short Term Illness and Injury Plan/Weekly Indemnity (STIIP) plans including disability and financial management of a multi-million dollar annual budget and claim reserves.

Corporate responsibility includes representing the employer before appeal bodies; and ensuring that the employer’s integration/subrogation rights pursuant to the collective agreement are considered when claims for third party action (i.e. Insurance Corporation of BC - ICBC) are settled.  This responsibility is conducted within the confines of the WCB Act, Collective agreements (PEA, Nurses, BCGEU), Terms and Conditions for Excluded Employees and other relevant legislation including Human Rights Act, Employment Standards Act and Public Service Act.  The program goal is to support safe, timely and sustainable returns to work while optimizing and mitigating public service benefit costs. 

The Corporate Advisor provides expert advice and guidance to multiple employer groups including BC Public Service ministry, agency, board and commission managers on matters relating to disability case management, LTD and WCB claims management, claims review committees,  and WCB appeal related matters. Acts as the Employer and plan representative as part of the Agency disability management team, to steward the LTD plan to continuous improvement.  The Corporate Advisor liaises with internal and external stakeholders including LTD plan carrier and Agency resources to oversee and stewards the plan resources.

To be considered for this position your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have the following:

  • A degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of claims and case management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Preference may be given to applicants with education in WorkSafe, law, policy or disability case management.

  • Demonstrated success as a negotiator and/or advocate.

  • Experience in WorkSafe claims representation and advocacy; or experience in WorkSafe claims adjudication or claims management.

  • Experience with Human Rights Legislation, WorkSafe BC and/or Long Term Disability policy and guidelines.
