The Human Resources Generalist (HRG) role plays a critical part in the HR client experience at Roche Canada by acting as the first point of contact for Employees and Managers regarding policy questions and inquiries. This role supports the HR Business Partner (HRBP) by providing coaching support to Employees and Managers for intermediate level employee relations issues and by acting as the primary HR partner for People Managers ( below Director level) in the organization.
The HR Generalist is accountable for creating all employment documentation, including Employment Agreements for all client groups in the organization, and for coordinating the offer negotiation process. In addition, this role partners with multiple HRBPs and key stakeholders on the HR Leadership Team to ensure people strategies, process and projects are implemented effectively.
Once an Employment Agreement is provided to a candidate, the HRG role is the first point of contact for all candidates for questions and negotiations. This role is accountable for closing straightforward offer negotiations with candidates and for coordinating more complex offer negotiations involving compensation and benefit requests with the HRBP and the Director, Total Rewards as required in accordance with the compensation guidelines.
This role is accountable for pro-actively managing the status of contract Employees directly with clients (extensions or contract terminations), including the delivery of appropriate documentation, and tracking of decisions in the relevant tool.
Helps coordinate employee referral bonus payouts by acting as a liaison with the Talent Acquisition team.
This role partners with HRBP, Pension & Benefits Specialist, and legal counsel to resolve relocation and immigration issues as required (ie complete relocation initiation form; completes initial relocation data sheet; handles Employee questions regarding site visits and coaches Managers on site visit experience.)
Act as the primary HR partner for People Managers (below Director level) for intermediate level employee relations issues, redirecting to HRBP as required.
Accountable for responding to policy questions and other inquiries from clients up to an intermediate level, redirecting to HRBP or SME (Subject Matter Expert) as required. Participate in employee relations or policy discrepancy discussions and decisions, and draft policy and SOP documents as required. Also, document and store rationale for decisions to ensure consistency across client groups.
This role manages the termination process, including termination data review, initial contact and follow up with legal counsel concerning details of initial termination offer, preparation of termination agreements (often in a variety of complex situations). Occasionally conducts termination meetings as required. Also, manage logistics for termination meetings, including coordination of outplacement and security services, room bookings, and management of the return of Company property and follow-up with terminated Employee as required.
Management of the resignation process. Upon receipt of a resignation letter, work with Manager to ensure complete understanding of roles & responsibilities and requirement /action steps to be taken prior to the departure process. Conduct exit interviews (below Director level and low risk), and provide reporting summaries to HR leadership team (HRLT) and/or the Employee’s home department/division, as appropriate.
Support promotional review process by reviewing the data submitted by Managers for accuracy, and by providing recommendations on salary adjustments to the HRBP if required.
Attend & document talent management meetings and be accountable for providing data on talent when required to support HRBP and Talent Acquisition Team.
Provide support to HRBP at calibration meetings by tracking decisions made regarding final performance ratings.
Creation of Employment Agreements, and all types of employment documentation, including termination agreements, contract notifications, and promotion letters and follow-up with Employees to ensure all relevant documentation is received and appropriately filed.
Complete and maintain CHRIS (Common Human Resources Information System) position log for all employee movement that does not require recruitment support, and close the log with information on candidates who have accepted offers.
Provide accurate, timely data and information to SME group to ensure that employment records are appropriately updated (ie payroll/onboarding information; organization chart information)
Management of PeopleAlerts to provide information to all key stakeholders.
Learning & Development & Project Support:
Provide support to HRBP team on corporate initiatives or projects as required (i.e. participate in global project roll-outs and local process improvement initiatives)
Support the Learning & Development and the HRBP function by facilitating and co-facilitating sessions as required

Education / Skills / Knowledge / Experience Required
Bachelor’s Degree; Human Resources designation an asset
A minimum of 3-5 years of work experience as an HR Generalist, with experience providing support to corporate office clients, including managers and group leaders.
Solid experience in autonomously handling employee relations issues, and in interfacing with clients at all levels in the organization.
Experience partnering/collaborating with Subject Matter Experts to ensure appropriate delivery of solutions to clients.
Bilingualism is an asset
Ability to work independently in a very fast-paced environment, and to handle multiple, competing priorities.
Strong knowledge of HR legislation and standards
Ability to constructively coach and provide feedback with diplomacy
Ability to exercise critical judgment to assess and mitigate risk in employee relations situations
Proficient in software applications (Word; Excel; PowerPoint; HRIS software)
